Artist Statement
I create art to celebrate specific events, people and memories. My art work is deeply personal and has a small target audience, people who can connect with my works and experiences. I have bad eyes, I am borderline legally blind and have several deficiencies when it comes to seeing color. My style of painting is heavily influenced by the way I see. It’s blurry and all the colors blend together. It’s hard to distinguish shape but color, light and dark, and the temperature of the colors stands out. My goal is to reflect that vision in my art. To achieve this goal, I use a variety of different tools to apply paint to the canvases. I use heavy, wet paint and apply it hastily with brushes, palate knives, rolled up newspapers and my fingers. I work quickly, using both my right and left hand to paint.
