Vanessa Giraldo Salazar’s work highlights the relationship and familiarity she has with the built environment and informal spaces. As a first-generation immigrant from Colombia she has lived, learned and breathed transnationally. In her work, she hopes to pay homage to her immigrant parents, reflect on the power of storytelling and the feeling of nostalgia all while actively reconciling the stigmatization of her cultural heritage. Her work features mixed-media drawings and multimedia installation pieces titled Homenaje a Mi Familia: Los Colores de Mi Infancia (Homage to My Family: The Colors of my Childhood), Nostalgia del Pasado 1 and 2 (Nostalgia of the Past), Music Through Space, and Communication Through Time.
